Orion ('Ri') was a drug dependent, introverted boy, self-medicating to fend off disturbing and vivid dreams. After he was turned by Draco, it become apparent that these dreams were manifestations of a troubling ability.

He is emotionally distant, but not for lack of trying. He wants to love and be loved, but his strong empathic abilities make this almost impossible. No-one can keep a secret from him for very long, and his sensitivity to other people’s emotions can make Orion’s behaviour erratic at best.

He dies at the age of twenty nine, mind and body damaged irreparably by visions.

Yes, yes his name means puppy. Do you have something to goddamn say about that? No? good. He didn’t chose it, anyway.

Koi is beautiful- really, truly, breathtakingly beautiful. Too bad he’s emotionally stunted. And spoiled. Kind people call it a defence mechanism, but other people call him a bitch.

He was bought as child by Orion, but was effectively released from his services a few years ago. He has the worst sort of crush on Baden.

TITIAN.

Age: 23.

Titian (‘Tish’) fought for four years as a foot-soldier in the most recent wave of the harpy-vampire war, until his capture. He was not particularly distinguished in combat, but his fierce loyalty and stubbornness earned him respect from his fellows.

Held by vampire forces along with hundreds of other harpies, he was to be executed or sold into slavery. Whilst imprisoned he caught Draco’s eye, who bought him on a whim and presented him to Orion as a companion and assistant to replace Koi.

The relationship was initially fraught and cold, formed out of necessity. Eventually, however, Titian began to develop deep and complicated feelings for Orion. He was devastated by his death.

Race: Vampire (Old Order by birth).
Age: 32.

Baden is apparently Zanshin’s first and only son. He was raised as heir to his father’s power, part of an effort to establish a line of descent and bring more authority to Zanshin’s rule. Baden remembers little of his mother.

Baden is still considered juvenile by his peers (their average age being several hundred years), and has had to work hard to earn their respect. He has been raised to be fiercely proud of his race, and to obey his father completely. It is not a particularly loving relationship.

His brutality in battle is tempered by his good humour- he has a laughing, boisterous charisma that attracts friends and lovers equally. His feelings for Koi are masked by a tangle of moral and social restrictions.
